Study of multimodal imaging technology for pathogenesis of plantar fascia inflammatory calcaneodynia |

Abstract Objective To study the correlation between the elasticity of plantar fascia and arch deformation, in order to dicuss pathogenesis of plantar fascia inflammatory calcaneodynia, by high-frequency ultrasound, ultrasonic elastography CT three dimensional reconstruction. Methods From December 2015 to December 2016, in Second Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, 88 plantar fasciitis patients (single foot) were selected as observation group, at the same time, 48 healthy volunteers were selected as control group. Two groups were given X-ray lateral and CT three dimensional reconstruction, in order to get the anatomic site and form of plantar fascia, measure thickness and elasticity of plantar fascia, the arch angles while weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing were respectively measured by referring to osseous marks, the thickness, elasticity and regularity of the variation of arch angles of plantar fascia different sites of two groups were compared. Results The thickness of plantar fascia initial segment (PF1) in observation group was more than control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The elasticity of PF1 from the observation group was less than control group, and elasticity of PF1 from was less than plantar fascia contral from (PF2) in observation group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The variation of arch angels of observation and control groups from weight-bearing to non-weight-bearing in two groups were compared, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The thickness of plantar fascia can be measured by elastography technique, the elasticity of plantar fascia influences the deformability of arch angel, the recession of the deformability of arch angel is one of the major causes of calcaneodynia due to plantar fasciitis.
