Abstract Objective To explore the value of ATG16L1 and galectin-9 (Gal-9) in judging the activity of ulcerative colitis (UC). Methods From March 2015 to March 2016, 80 patients with UC in the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University (“our hospital” for short) were selected as the observation group, and 20 patients with no intestinal disease over the same period as the control group. The UC activity was evaluated using the modified Mayo scoring system evaluation. Spearman correlation was used to analyze the correlation between the expression level of ATG16L1 gal-9 in the observation group and the Mayo score. Results The relative expression of ATG16L1 and the protein positive expression rate in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05), and the relative expression of Gal-9 and the positive expression rate in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The relative expression level and positive rate of ATG16L1 showed a significant negative correlation with Mayo score (rs=-0.78,P < 0.05;rs=-0.80,P < 0.05). The relative expression level of Gal-9 and the protein positive rate showed a significant positive correlation with Mayo score (all rs=0.81,P < 0.05). Conclusion The expression of ATG16L1 and Gal-9 is closely related to the activity of UC, which can be used as an index to judge the activity of UC.
