Application effect of mind mapping based feedback method in health education of hypoglycemia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes#br# |

Abstract Objective To evaluate the effect of mind mapping based feedback method in health education of hypoglycemia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 62 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes who were hospitalized in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to January 2021 were selected. Random number table method was used to divide them into control group and mapping group, with 31 cases in each group. The responsible nurses in the control group received routine health education after admission, and the mapping group received the knowledge education of hypoglycemia prevention and treatment with mind mapping based feedback method. After ten days of education, the awareness rate of hypoglycemia knowledge (concept, cause, symptoms, treatment and prevention), the retest rate of hypoglycemia 15 min later, the incidence of hypoglycemia, and the blood glucose level before the next meal were compared between two groups. Results After ten days of education, the knowledge awareness rate of hypoglycemia in the mapping group was higher than that before education, and the knowledge awareness rate of hypoglycemia and the retest compliance rate of hypoglycemia after 15 min were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of hypoglycemia during hospitalization and blood glucose before the next meal were lower than those in the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). Conclusion Health education for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes can improve their awareness rate of hypoglycemia and reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia by using mind mapping based feedback method.
