Abstract  Objective To observe the clinical effect of modern rehabilitation technique combined with warm acupuncture in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals. Methods A total of 40 peripheral facial paralysis patients with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals admitted to Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Affiliated Hospital of Weifang Medical University from April 2018 to January 2020 were selected and divided into observation group and control group according to random number table method, with 20 cases in each group. Patients in both groups received basic drug therapy after onset. One week after onset, the control group was additionally treated with modern rehabilitation techniques, the observation group was additionally treated with warm acupuncture on the basis of control group. Facial function was assessed by House-Brackmann (H-B), and the ratios of mean root mean square (RMS) of surface electromyography (sEMG) in frontal muscle group, nasal muscle group, buccal muscle group and orbicularis muscle group with one week after onset and four courses of treatment in both groups. Results After treatment, the total effective rate of observation group was higher than that in control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The H-B grade in two groups was better than that before treatment, and the H-B grade in observation group was better than that in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The ratios of the mean RMS of frontal muscle group, nasal muscle group, buccal muscle group and orbicularis muscle group in the two groups were higher than those before treatment, which in the observation group were higher than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Modern rehabilitation technique combined with warm acupuncture has a significant effect in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis with syndrome of wind-cold attacking collaterals. The surface myoelectricity can accurately evaluate patients’ facial function.
