Abstract FAM83A, namely the family with sequence similarity 83 member A gene, is a protein-coding gene containing domain 1669 whose function remains to be defined. Initially identified as a potential tumor gene, it is up-regulated in lung cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, and other malignant tumors, promoting cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transformation, and other functions. Current studies suggest that a variety of microRNAs can act as tumor suppressor genes, and circRNA or long non-coding RNA is its upstream, directly or indirectly targeting FAM83A to form an axis to act on signaling pathways and inhibit the occurrence and development of cancer. However, the specific molecular mechanism remains to be further studied. This article reviews the expression and role of FAM83A in malignant tumors.
