Abstract Atherosclerosis (AS) is a progressive inflammatory response that occurs on the vascular wall. Its pathogenesis is complex, and many inflammatory cells and inflammatory factors are involved in this process. Autophagy is a lysosomal mediated process of removing damaged substances in cells and using them for intracellular turnover so as to maintain intracellular homeostasis, which is prevalent in eukaryotic life activities. The relationship between autophagy and AS has attracted more and more attention in the medical field. This paper introduces the relationship between AS and related protein molecules and vascular cell autophagy in the process of autophagy, providing reference for further understanding the mechanism of AS.
