Abstract West China Hospital of Stomatology of Sichuan University, Sichuan Province, Chengdu 610041, China
[Abstract] The Hall technique is a more convenient method for the treatment of molar caries of deciduous teeth based on the traditional metal preformed crown restorations. The Hall technique does not require local anesthesia, caries removal, and tooth preparation. It can be used to fix the metal precrown directly on the affected tooth, and can be used to close the caries tissue and prevent the development of caries. Several studies have shown that the clinical efficacy of the Hall technique is more comparable than traditional metal preformed crown restorations, and the success rate is higher than that of traditional filling techniques and non-restorative treatments. Hall technology embodies the concept of minimally invasive and comfortable treatment in children’s stomatology, which is helpful to reduce the occurrence of dental fear in children. However, due to the absence of tooth preparation, the Hall technique is controversial in the aspects of occlusal relationship, edge closeness, and influence on periodontal tissue. In this paper, the basic principles, indications and contraindients, clinical efficacy and related clinical issues of Hall technology are summarized.
