TED-based cultivation and practice of general academic English oral presentation competence for medical undergraduates |

Abstract As a general academic English skill, oral presentation competence is one of the learning objectives of academic English course at undergraduate level. In light of the problems existing in oral presentations of medical undergraduates of Naval Medical University, this research explores ways to improve their oral presentation capabilities in teaching practice. In the medical English course for second-year medical undergraduates, the teacher introduces TED model and successful TED strategies, clarifies the grading rules, adopts a student-centered approach with major-orientated teaching design, and integrates content, language and skills to comprehensively cultivate students’ oral presentation ability. Finally, this paper puts forward suggestions to enhance presentation competence of medical undergraduates.
