Meta-analysis of the effect of elastic band resistance exercise on improving cardiopulmonary function and exercise ability in patients with coronary heart disease |

Abstract Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of elastic band resistance exercise on improving cardiopulmonary function and exercise ability in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods A computer search was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang and China Biomedical Database on the improvement of cardiopulmonary function and exercise ability of patients with coronary heart disease by elastic band resistance exercise. The retrieval time was from inception to October 2020. Two researchers independently conducted quality assessment and data extraction, and meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. According to the exercise intervention measures, they were divided into elastic band resistance exercise group and control group. Results A total of 12 randomized controlled trials were included. Compared with the control group, the peak oxygen uptake (MD = 4.01, 95%CI [2.62, 5.41], P < 0.000 01), anoxic threshold (MD = 2.35, 95%CI [2.01, 2.69], P < 0.000 01), left ventricular ejection fraction (MD = 8.35, 95%CI [5.42, 11.28], P < 0.000 01) in the elastic band resistance exercise group was significantly increased, and the distance of six minute walking test was extended (MD = 59.09, 95%CI [32.52, 85.66], P < 0.0001). Conclusion Compared with other forms of exercise, elastic band resistance exercise has a more significant effect on improving cardiopulmonary function and exercise ability of patients with coronary heart disease.
