Abstract  Objective To explore the effect of health education of knowledge, belief and practice on the compliance behavior and prognosis of patients with isolated superior mesenteric artery dissection (ISMAD). Methods From January 2015 to March 2020, 126 patients with ISMAD admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were selected as research objects. According to the random number table method, they were divided into observation group (63 cases) and control group (63 cases). The patients in control group received regular health education, and the patients in observation group received health education of knowledge, belief and practice. The pain degree(visual analogue scale [VAS] was used), compliance behavior (self-made questionnaire on compliance behavior of ISMAD patients was used) of two groups before and after intervention were compared, and the incidence of complications was recorded. Results After six months of follow-up, observation group completed follow-up of 60 cases, and control group completed follow-up of 56 cases. After six months of follow-up, VAS scores of two groups were lower than thos of the same group before intervention, and observation group was lower than control group (P < 0.05); the scores of standardized diet, smoking cessation and alcohol restriction, blood pressure monitoring, medication management, regular follow-up scores, and total scores of two groups were higher than those of the same group before intervention, and observation group was higher than control group (P < 0.05). The total incidence of complications in observation group was lower than that in control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Health education on knowledge, belief and practice can help promote the development of compliance behavior for patients with superior mesenteric artery dissection, relieve their pain and reduce the occurrence of complications.
