Abstract Radiotherapy for abdominal tumors is inconclusive because of the breathing-induced movement of tumors and organs at risk. The management of tumors and organs movement in radiotherapy is crucial for abdominal precision radiotherapy. If the movement has not been properly considered during radiotherapy, delivered dose will deviate, which will affect the therapeutic effect. With the development of radiotherapy equipment and technology, many techniques have been developed and applied to manage the movement, such as motion-encompassing techniques, breath-hold techniques, forced shallow-breathing techniques, respiratory-gating techniques, and real-time motion tracking techniques. All kinds of technologies have their own characteristics. At present, several techniques are combined to achieve better therapeutic effect in clinic. This article reviews the research progress of the management of organs respiratory motion during radiotherapy for abdominal tumors.
