Abstract Objective To explore the correlation between frailty and cognitive dysfunction in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods A total of 127 patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital of Capital Medical University from October 2019 to June 2020 were selected. Edmonton frailty scale (EFS) was used to evaluate their frailty, and they were divided into frailty group (51 cases) and non-frailty group (76 cases) according to whether frailty occurred. General data of the two groups were collected, and the cognitive function of the two groups was evaluated using the Montreal cognitive assessment scale (MoCA). Results The age, blood glucose levels, proportion of diabetes and proportion of hypertension in the frailty group were higher than those in the non-frailty group, and the total score of MoCA and scores of all fields were lower than those in the non-frailty group, the differences were statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Correlation analysis showed that total EFS score was negatively correlated with total MoCA score (r = -0.491, P < 0.001), visuospatial/executive function score (r = -0.444, P < 0.001), naming score (r = -0.237, P < 0.001), memory score (r = -0.364, P < 0.001), attention scores (r = -0.350, P < 0.001), language function scores (r = -0.238, P = 0.007), abstract ability scores (r = -0.202, P = 0.023), and orientation scores (r = -0.229, P = 0.010) negatively correlated. Conclusion Patients with acute ischemic stroke are prone to frailty and cognitive dysfunction, the frailty can affect the occurrence of cognitive dysfunction.
