Research progress of acid sphingomyelinase and hepatorenal diseases |

Abstract In this paper, the role of acid sphingomyelinase in the occurrence and development of liver related diseases such as hepatocyte apoptosis, fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis, liver cirrhosis and liver tumor, as well as its relationship with the occurrence and development of kidney related diseases such as diabetic nephropathy, glomerular disease and cadmium-induced renal damage were reviewed. It was found that acid sphingomyelinase can regulate the metabolic process of sphingolipids by activating a large amount production of ceramides, and thus plays an important role in the development of liver and kidney related diseases. Inhibition of the activity and expression of acid sphingomyelinase is of great importance for further research on the pathogenesis of diseases, prevention and control of liver and kidney related diseases, and slowing down the progression of diseases.
