Abstract The trabecular bone score (TBS) is a gray-scale structural index generated by the lumbar dual-energy X-ray bone densitometer (DXA) image data, and is closely related to bone microstructure independent of bone density (BMD), and can predict clinical risk of upper osteoporotic fractures. At present, BMD is the most commonly used method for clinical assessment of fracture risk, but it has some limitations in evaluating bone microstructure. TBS can be used to assess bone microstructure and texture, so in people with endocrine metabolic diseases and bone structural changes, TBS can be used as a complementary tool for non-invasive assessment of bone quality and fracture risk. This paper reviews the latest research results of TBS on fracture risk assessment in this population.
