Effect of endoscopic EMR resection of gastrointestinal polyps and changes of gastrointestinal hormone levels |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) on the treatment of gastrointestinal polyps and its effect on gastrointestinal hormone levels. Methods A total of 300 patients with gastrointestinal polyps admitted to No.904 th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army from October 2016 to October 2018 were selected and they were divided into EMR group and control group (high-frequency electrocoagulation ligation) by random number table method, with 150 cases in each group. The rate of complete polyp resection, operative time, intraoperative bleeding rate, delayed bleeding rate, changes of serum motilin, gastrin and vasoactive intestinal peptide levels before and after surgery and the incidence of complications in two groups were compared. Results The rate of intact polyp removal in EMR group was higher than that in control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in operation time between EMR group and control group (P > 0.05). The intraoperative bleeding rate and delayed bleeding rate in EMR group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05). Twenty-four hours after surgery, the levels of motilin and gastrin in both groups were lower than those before surgery (P < 0.05), but those in EMR group were higher than those in control group (P < 0.05). Twenty-four hours after operation, vasoactive intestinal peptide in both groups was increased (P < 0.05), but EMR group was lower than control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion EMR treatment of gastrointestinal polyps is superior to high-frequency electrocoagulation ligation and has less effect on gastrointestinal hormone levels.
