Application of mind mapping combined with problem-based learning teaching method in clinical clerkship of infectious diseases |

Abstract Objective To study the application effect of mind mapping combined with problem-based learning (PBL) teaching method in clinical clerkship of infectious diseases. Methods Thirty-six students from a class of Grade 2016 in Capital Medical University were selected as the study subjects and they were divided into the research group (n = 18) and the control group (n = 18) by using of random number table method. The control group were employed for PBL teaching method, and the research group were employed for mind mapping combined with PBL teaching method. The teaching effect was evaluated by examination and questionnaire survey. Results The test scores of theory and case analysis in the research group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (all P < 0.05). The evaluation scores of the research group were higher than those of the control group in terms of clear organization, prominent important and difficult points, in-depth content understanding, increased interest in learning, improved ability to ask questions, improved clinical thinking ability, improved self-study ability and improved learning efficiency, and the differences were statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Conclusion The application of mind mapping combined with PBL teaching method is effective in clinical clerkship of infectious diseases, and it is worth popularizing and applying.
