Abstract Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent progressive disease, the occurrence and development of the disease are mostly related to the autophagy and apoptosis mechanisms of endometrial cells. Patients with endometriosis promote the occurrence of endometriosis by inhibiting the level of apoptosis of endometriosis cells to protect cells and promote cell proliferation. However, the role of autophagy in endometriosis is still controversial. However, whether autophagy is an “enemy” or a “friend” in endometriosis is still controversial. Both low and high levels of autophagy have been observed in endometriosis lesions, and can promote the development of endometriosis via inhibiting apoptosis in different ways. Therefore, the relationship between autophagy and apoptosis in endometriosis and the expression level of autophagy still need to be explored continuously.
