Evaluation of the effect of multimedia health education in patients undergoing percutaneous lumbar discectomy |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of multimedia health education on the postoperative rehabilitation cognition level and early rehabilitation training compliance of patients with percutaneous lumbar discectomy (PLD). Methods A total of 106 PLD patients admitted to Nantong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Jiangsu Province from July 2017 to June 2018 were selected and divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 53 cases in each group. The control group was given regular health education, while the observation group was given multimedia health education. Follow-up for six months, the postoperative rehabilitation cognition level, early rehabilitation training compliance and lumbar function were compared between the two groups. Results After six months of follow-up, the awareness rate of postoperative rehabilitation knowledge of the two groups were significantly higher than those before education in the same group, while the awareness rate of rehabilitation knowledge of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The early rehabilitation training compliance rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). After six months of follow-up, the visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) of the two groups were significantly lower than those before education in the same group, Japanese orthopaedic association (JOA) score was significantly higher than that before education in the same group, while the VAS and ODI of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group, the JOA score was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Multimedia health education helps to improve the cognitive level of early rehabilitation training for PLD patients, promotes the development of compliance behaviors for early rehabilitation training postoperative, and improve the patient’s lumbar function.
