| Effect of Orem self-care model on Self-care ability and quality of life in patients with chronic gastric ulcer |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of Orem self-care model on self-care ability and quality of life improvement in patients with chronic gastric ulcer. Methods A total of 174 patients with chronic gastric ulcer admitted to Yangjiang People’s Hospital of Guangdong Province from February 2018 to December 2019 were selected as the research subjects. The patients were divided into control group and observation group by convenience sampling method, with 87 cases in each group. The control group was given traditional conventional nursing guidance, and the observation group was given Orem self-care mode. The self-care ability score and quality of life evaluation were compared between the two groups at admission and discharge. Results The scores of all dimensions of the self-care ability scale at discharge were higher in the two groups than at admission, with highly statistical significance (P ＜ 0.01), the scores of each dimension of the self-care ability scale in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the differences were highly statistically significant (P ＜ 0.01). The scores of all dimensions of the quality of life scale in the two groups were higher at discharge than at admission, with statistical significance (P ＜ 0.05 or P ＜ 0.01), and the scores of each dimension of the quality of life scale in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the differences were highly statistically significant (P ＜ 0.01). Conclusion Based on the Orem self-care model, not only effectively enhance the self-care ability of patients with gastric ulcer, but also greatly improve their quality of life.
