| Application effect of WeChat platform health management in patients with peripherally inserted central catheters during the outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 |

Abstract Objective To investigate the application effect of WeChat platform health management in patients with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) during the outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods A total of 108 cases of PICC in-home patients managed by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital during the outbreak of the COVID-19 from January to February 2020 were selected as the research objects. The patients were divided into experimental group (56 cases) and control group (56 cases, 52 cases were actually included) by random number table method. The control group was given discharge guidance and telephone follow-up management, and the treatment group used WeChat platform health management. The home treatment compliance, PICC catheterization self-management ability, and PICC catheterization-related complications were compared between the two groups. Results The patients in the experimental group had higher compliance with healthy life, self-protection and physical monitoring than in the control group (P ＜ 0.05); daily catheter observation, maintenance compliance, catheter management confidence, abnormal situation handling, information acquisition, tube exercise, tube daily life, and PICC management total scores were higher than those of the control group (P ＜ 0.01); the incidence of PICC-related complications was lower than that of the control group (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The health management of the WeChat platform can help improve the compliance behavior of PICC intubation patients at home during the COVID-19 epidemic, promote the development of PICC intubation self-management ability, and reduce the occurrence of PICC intubation-related complications.
