| Theoretical exploration on the connotation of dampness-heat in traditional Chinese medicine |

Abstract Dampness-heat is a basic concept in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. It was first seen in Huang Di Nei Jing and prevailed in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties. It has rich connotations, covering multiple meanings such as climate environment, etiologies, pathogenesis, syndromes and constitution. Starting from ancient literatures and modern research, this paper analyzes and classifies the meanings of dampness-heat in different categories, expounds the theoretical origin of dampness-heat, the nature and characteristics of the etiologies of dampness-heat, the occurrence of dampness-heat pathogenesis, the cause of dampness-heat constitution and the relationship with syndrome, so as to be beneficial to the related theoretical research and disease treatment.
