Abstract Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on the prognosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were searched by computer, and the search period was from January 2000 to January 2020. The relevant studies on the relationship between NLR and the prognosis of CKD patients were collected. The Stata 14.0 statistical software was used to assess the pooled hazard ratio (HR), along with 95% confidence interval (CI) about all-cause mortality, adverse cardiovascular events and end-stage renal disease. Results This study included 19 studies with a total of 120 377 patients with CKD. All-cause mortality (HR = 1.39, 95%CI: 1.13-1.70, P = 0.002) and adverse cardiovascular events (HR = 1.25, 95%CI: 1.09-1.43, P = 0.001) of high NLR patients were higher than those of low NLR patients; there was no significant differents between two groups of the occurrence risk of end-stage renal disease (HR = 1.46, 95%CI: 0.95-2.26, P = 0.087). Conclusion High NLR is an independent risk factor for adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause motality in patients with CKD.
