Abstract Objective To observe the effect of scalp acupuncture therapy combined with synchronous MOTOmed training on lower limb function of hemiplegic patients after stroke. Methods Sixty patients with cerebral apoplexy admitted to Department of Rehabilitation, Affiliated hospital of Zunyi Medical University from January 2016 to January 2017 were selected and divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. In the observation group, the MOTOmed training was applied during scalp acupuncture treatment. In the control group, the scalp acupuncture was done in the morning and the MOTOmed training was applied in the afternoon. The efficacy was evaluated by national institute of health stroke scale (NIHSS), Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), Berg balance scale (BBS) and modified Barthel index (MBI) before and in eight weeks of treatment, respectively. Results The NIHSS scores of the two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the NIHSS scores of observation group after treatment were lower than those of control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The FMA, BBS and MBI scores of the two groups after treatment were higher than those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the FMA, BBS and MBI scores of observation group after treatment were higher than those of control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion For the hemiplegic patients after stroke, the model of scalp acupuncture therapy combined with synchronous MOTOmed training achieves the superior improvements of the lower limb motor function, balance function and the activity of daily life as compared with non-synchronous model.
