Abstract Objective To investigate the expression of human papilloma virus (HPV)16/18 and Rb protein in benign and malignant breast lesions and its correlation. Methods From January 2016 to December 2017, the surgical breast surgically resected specimens in Liuzhou People′s Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Artonomous Region as the research object, 68 cases with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of IDC group, 30 cases with breast atypical ductal epithelial hyperplasia (ADH) of ADH group, 30 cases with normal breast tissue adjacent to breast fibroadenoma of normal breast group. HPV16/18 DNA was detected by in situ hybridization and Rb protein was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results HPV16/18 DNA positive rate in IDC group was higher than that in normal breast group and ADH group; the positive Rb protein expression rate was lower than that in normal breast group and ADH group(all P < 0.01). The expression of HPV16/18 DNA in each group was negatively correlated with the expression of Rb protein (r = -0.802, -0.774, -0.802, all P < 0.05). The expression of HPV16/18 DNA and Rb protein in IDC patients was closely related to histological grade, lymph node metastasis and pTNM stage(P < 0.01). Conclusion The HPV16/18 infection and Rb protein expression deletion may be involved in the occurrence and development of breast cancer.
