The effect of Probucol on diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic rats |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of Probucol on diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic rats. Methods Sixteen diabetic rats were divided into DM group and PB group, 8 rats in each group. 9 normal rats were chosen as normal control group (NC group). The UMA, BUN, Scr, HOMA-IR, renal hypertrophy index, TG, TC, LDL-C, SOD, GSH-PX, MDA and Pathologic histology were selected as detected indicators. The effect of Probucol on diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetic rats were evaluated. Results In DM group, BUN, UMA, renal hypertrophy index, HOMA-IR, Scr, TG, TC, LDL-C, MDA were significantly higher than those of the NC group, SOD and GSH-PX were significantly lower than those of the NC group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). In PB group, BUN, Scr, UMA, TC, LDL-C, MDA were significantly lower than DM group, SOD and GSH-PX were significantly higher than DM group (P < 0.05or P < 0.01). The changes of renal pathological structure in PB group was significantly severer than DM group. Conclusion Probucol may play a role in diabetic nephropathy.
