Abstract Objective To explore the effect of WeChat platform peer support on medication compliance and quality of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods Patients with rheumatoid arthritis who were admitted to the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from August 2017 to June 2018 and who met the inclusion criteria were selected as study subjects, and they were divided into the control group (40 cases) and the experimental group (40 cases) according to the order of admission. The control group received routine health education after discharge and outpatient follow-up. On this basis, the experimental group adopted the peer support intervention with WeChat platform as the core for six months outside the hospital. The medication compliance, self-efficacy and life quality scores of the two groups at one, three and six months after discharge were compared. Results The overall analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in medication compliance, self-efficacy, and quality of life between groups at one, three and six months after discharge (all P < 0.05). It is suggested that peer support can improve patients′ medication compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life. The scores of medication compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life in the experimental group at six months after discharge were higher than those at one and three months after discharge, and those at three months after discharge were higher than those at one month after discharge, with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). In the control group, scores of medication compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life at six months after discharge were lower than those at one and three months after discharge, and scores of medication compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life at three months after discharge were lower than those at one month after discharge, with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). The scores of medication compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group at one, three and six months after discharge, with statistically significant differences (all P < 0.05). Conclusion Peer support intervention based on WeChat platform can improve drug compliance, self-efficacy and quality of life of patients.
