Abstract Lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH) is a chronic disease that affects the health and quality of life of the elderly. Self-management intervention, as a self-treatment measure in which patients actively participate, can be introduced into the treatment of male LUTS/BPH to help relieve symptoms and improve patients′ quality of life. This paper reviews the self management connotation of LUTS/BPH patients, treatment plan and related adverse events, and lifestyle (liquid management, drug management, etc.), behavioral interventions (secondary urination, bladder training, etc.), exercise training, and puts forward the existing problems, in order to optimize the self-management intervention plans of future clinical nursing workers reference.
