Abstract Depression has also been known as depression disorder, with the main clinical manifestations include decreased conscious activity and impaired cognitive function. With the increasing prevalence and disability rate, the treatment of depression has attracted much attention. Acupuncture treatment for depression mainly include acupuncture, moxibustion or a combination of the two method, and found that acupuncture as the main method of treatment has achieved good clinical efficacy and has been recognized by the majority of patients. Acupuncture treatment will not have the side effects and drug resistance of Western medicine. In combination with Western medicine, it improves the efficacy while reducing its side effects, providing an effective method for clinical treatment of depression. Acupuncture is expected to replace Western medicine and become the main treatment for depression. This paper summarizes the research progress of acupuncture in treating depression, and provides reference for clinical application and research.
