Influence of Gan Pi Shu on intestinal barrier function in liver cirrhosis rats |

Abstract Objective To explore the protective effect of Gan Pi Shu on intestinal mucosal barrier in rats with liver cirrhosis. Methods A total of 36 male SD rats were divided randomly into 4 groups based on SAS proc plan sentence according to the order of weight to be large, with 9 rats in each group. The rats in the blank group were injected intraperitoneally with saline daily. The rats in the model group were injected intraperitoneally with carbon tetrachloride to establish the model of liver cirrhosis. The rates in the Gan Pi Shu group and the Duphalac group were given Gan Pi Shu and Duphalac respectively based on the model group. The plasma levels of endotoxin (ET), diamine oxidase (DAO), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) were measured. The pathological changes of liver and ileum tissue were observed by HE staining. Results The plasma levels of ET, DAO, TNF-α and IL-1β in Gan Pi Shu group were lower than those of model group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). DAO and IL-1β in Gan Pi Shu group were lower than those of Duphalac group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The pathological changes of liver and ileum tissue in Gan Pi Shu and Duphalac group was better than that of model group. Conclusion Gan Pi Shu has the protective effect on the intestinal mucosal barrier in rats with liver cirrhosis, which can truncate the development process between intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction and cirrhosis.
