Correlation between matrix metalloproteinases and onset of preeclampsia |

Abstract Objective To analyze the correlation between matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and onset of preeclampsia. Methods From February 2016 to February 2018, 51 cases with preeclampsia patients in Tangshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hebei Province were randomly selected for the study. According to the severity of disease, they were divided into severe group (n = 22) and mild group (n = 29). Women with normal term pregnancy at the same time were included in control group (n = 30). The levels of serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 were compared among three groups. The correlation between serum levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and onset of preeclampsia was analyzed. The predictive value of MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels on severe preeclampsia was evaluated. Results The levels of serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 in severe group were lower than those in mild group and control group, and the levels serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 in mild group were lower than those in control group (all P < 0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels were negatively correlated with onset of preeclampsia and disease severity (r = -0.839, -0.747; P < 0.001). The cut-off value of serum MMP-2 level was 54.89 pg/mL in predicting severe preeclampsia, and the sensitivity, specificity were 0.818, 0.828. The cut-off value of serum MMP-9 level was 175.62 pg/mL in predicting severe preeclampsia, and the sensitivity, specificity were 0.818, 0.897. Conclusion The levels of serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 are closely related to the onset of preeclampsia and severity of preeclampsia, which has certain predictive value for severe preeclampsia.
