Investigation and risk factors analysis of intracranial infection in patients undergoing craniotomy |

Abstract Objective To analyze the intracranial infection and related risk factors in patients undergoing craniotomy. Methods A total of 1088 patients with craniotomy who admitted to Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January to December 2018 were selected. The general and clinical data of all patients were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used for further analysis. The intracranial infection in 1088 patients with craniotomy was observed and the ndependent risk factors for intracranial infection in patients undergoing craniotomy were analyzed. Results Among the 1088 patients, 43 developed intracranial infection. The patients with intracranial infection, 4 (9.3%) died, and the remaining 39 patients recovered and were discharged from the hospital after receiving appropriate treatment. The independent risk factors for intracranial infection in craniotomy patients were the duration of operation and the time of drainage tube placement. Duration of operation [OR = 6.698, 95%CI: 3.511-12.780, P = 0.027], the time drainage tube placement [OR = 2.603, 95%CI: 1.284-5.278, P = 0.018.] Conclusion The risk ratio of intracranial infection in patients with craniotomy is low, but the mortality rate is high. The independent risk factors that affect the occurrence of intracranial infection in patients with craniotomy are the duration of the operation and the time of drainage tube placement.
