Abstract In Jingui Yaolüe·On Pulse Syndrome Complex and Treatment of Blood Impediment, Zhang Zhongjing devises blood impediment into two different syndromes, light syndrome and heavy syndrome using different treatments, acupuncture and herb decoction. He points out that the main pathogenesis is ying wei qi and blood deficiency. Blood impediment is the dysfunction of limbs, but it is very different from other somato-joint diseases or deficiency diseases. Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Decoction is a kind of Guizhi Decoction, which represents the level of medicine theory at that era and is a special prescription for blood impediment now widely used in clinical practice. Based on other physicians′ discussion and the driginal text of Jingui Yaolüe, this article discusses the pathological mechanism of blood impediment and the principle of formulating prescription of Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Decoction, so as to provide gudance for clinic.
