Abstract Facing the difficulties and problems of medical genetics teaching in higher vocational college, focusing on the aim of improving students′ learning interest and teaching effectiveness, and based on the characteristics of clinical medicine students, the current situation of school and the talent training objectives, this paper analyzes the curriculum orientation, curriculum objectives and curriculum content setting of medical genetics for clinical medicine students in higher vocational colleges, discusses the patterns and methods to optimize abstracted, high theoretical and important course contents with examples, proposes the methods for reformation and innovation of classroom teaching, assessment and evaluation means, to improve students′ learning initiative, and probes the strategies to improve teaching quality of medical genetics course in higher vocational college.
