| Discussion on definition, disciplinary orientation and teaching objectives of traditional Chinese medicine English |

Abstract The current subject orientation of tradition Chinese medicine English is unclear. Based on the definition and disciplinary orientation of medical English, combined with the characteristics of tradition Chinese medicine English, this article concludes that traditional Chinese medicine English belongs to medical English and is a language discipline. Traditional Chinese medicine English courses are both connected and differentiated from public English courses and medical bilingual courses, while it is also the transition between them. Based on this, three guiding principles are put forward for the setting of the teaching objectives of traditional Chinese medicine English course. This research provides reference and lessons for the construction of traditional Chinese medicine English subject.
