| Significance, current situation and dilemma of narrative medicine research |

Abstract As an effective means of evaluation and intervention, narrative medicine can promote personalized nursing, emotional healing and treatment dependence, and ultimately improve the quality of life of patients. Although narrative medicine is a hot topic in medical research, there is a lack of academic progress in this field at home and abroad. This paper comprehensively reviews the research content, characteristics and current situation of the development of narrative medicine in foreign countries. With the help of node articles and publication time of cited literature of narrative medicine, and with reference to PubMed search data, this paper divides narrative medicine into three stages: the first stage is the initial stage of the theory of narrative medicine; the second stage is the scientific stage of the theory, with a small number of case-based application research; the third stage is the role of narrative medicine education and the explosive growth stage of narrative medicine application research, at this time, quantitative research began to appear, but qualitative research is still dominant. In addition, literature review shows that the current dilemma facing narrative medicine research is the lack of a unified methodology, which is manifested in a wide range of data collection and coding.
