Pregnancy outcome analysis in 9 cases of intrauterine pregnancy with intrauterine device without intervention |

Abstract Objective To analyze the pregnancy outcome of intrauterine pregnancy with intrauterine device (IUD) and explore the related influencing factors. Methods From January 2009 to December 2018, 9 cases of intrauterine pregnancy with IUD and requiring continued pregnancy which were collected by national network for contraceptives adverse reaction surveillanc were analysed. The population characteristics and pregnancy outcomes were comprehended. Results IUDs used in 9 cases of intrauterine pregnancy were different types and were in different positions in the uterine cavity. IUDs of 9 cases were all not removed or expelled until the termination of pregnancy and the difficulty of IUD removal was not increased by pregnancy. No symptoms such as vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain were found during pregnancy. Finally, 2 cases were taken induced labor due to birth defects, 5 cases were taken caesarean section for scarred uterus, 1 case was taken caesarean section for intrauterine fetal anoxia and 1 case was by vaginal delivery. The maternal age of 2 birth defect cases and 1 severe neonatal asphyxia case were all over 35 years old. Conclusion Maternal age may be a risk factor for adverse pregnancy outcomes in intrauterine pregnancy with IUD, but it is not yet possible to determine whether some features of coexisting IUD such as structure, copper surface, locations, number of use, duration between IUD placement and fertilization affect adverse pregnancy outcomes.
