25(OH)D status and risk of gestational diabetes in Chinese population: a Meta-analysis |

Abstract Objective To analyze the relationship between 25(OH)D insufficiency and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk and the geographical variation in Chinese pregnant women. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted via PubMed, MEDLINE, CNKI, Wanfang and Weipu to obtain observational studies evaluating gestational diabetes risk in relation to 25(OH)D status from January 1990 to March 2018. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled using the random effect models. Results The prevalence of maternal 25(OH)D insufficiency of patients with GDM was 0.71 (95%CI = 0.62-0.80). A noteworthy decrease of 1.81 ng/mL (95%CI=1.48-2.14 ng/mL) in serum 25(OH)D was demonstrated in the patents with GDM compared with normal pregnant women. Regional differences analysis showed that, the serum 25(OH)D level of GDM patients was reduced by 1.23 ng/mL (95%CI=0.81-1.65 ng/mL) in the north than that of the south, and the serum 25(OH)D level of GDM patients in the south was reduced by 2.31 ng/mL (95%CI=1.81-2.80 ng/mL) than that in the north (P < 0.001). Conclusion Low level of 25(OH)D will increase the risk of gestational diabetes.
