Abstract Liver is the main metabolic organ of the body, which should not only face the invasion of various external environment factors, but also deal with the disorder of the internal environment of the body. T helper cell 17 (Th17) cell population and regulatory T cell (Treg) cell population, which are differentiated by primary CD4+T cells under the action of various cytokines, are functionally antagonistic to each other and maintain a balance in the body′s immune homeostasis. Studies have shown that the distribution level of Th17 cells and Treg cells in the liver and the changes in their balance are closely related to the occurrence and development of liver diseases. This paper summarizes the research progress of the two types of cells in liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, autoimmune liver disease, liver cancer and liver failure, hoping to provide certain basis for the later research of relevant scholars.
