Investigation and training strategies on medical professionalism of medical students in higher vocational colleges |

Abstract Objective To further study the present cultivation status on professionalism of medical students in higher vocational colleges, while explore measures to improve professionalism of medical students in higher vocational colleges, provide reference for the training and promotion the professionalism of medical students, and supply empirical data for the construction and management of medical related majors. Methods This study investigated 1300 students′ professional recognition, job-hunting and employment, and school professionalism training in 4 medical higher vocational colleges in Hu′nan Province. While in-depth interviews were conducted to investigate the situation of four majors in different majors and grades of Changsha Health Vocational College. Results The professional recognition and willingness of medical students in higher vocational colleges were generally low, while the schools′ overall satisfaction with the cultivation of medical students′ professionalism was low. Conclusion It is suggested to strengthen the training and learning of professionalism in higher vocational colleges. According to the results of investigation and in-depth interviews, after theoretical exploration and expert consultation and discussion, the training strategies of medical students′ professionalism in higher vocational colleges should be put forward from the aspects of system mechanism, curriculum design and teaching reform.
