| Clinical effect of calcium alginate wound dressing on the prevention of complications at the PICC puncture site in patients with lung cancer |

Abstract Objective To investigate the clinical effect of calcium alginate wound dressing on preventing complications of puncture site of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) in patients with lung cancer. Methods A total of 557 patients with lung cancer who received PICC in the Chest Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University from January to December 2018 were selected as the study subjects. According to random number table method, the patients were divided into the observation group (n = 278) and the control group (n = 279). The observation group was treated with calcium alginate wound dressing nursing method, while the control group was treated with traditional nursing method. The difference of incidence and degree of complications occurred at the early stage (d≤7) and the number of cases and degree of complications after catheterization, PICC indwelling time, average daily cost, etc were analyzed between the two groups. Results The number of cases of early complications in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). The number of cases of skin injury related to puncture site in the observation group were less than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). In addition, the observation group was superior to the control group in terms of postoperative pain, adhesion, healing time and scar size (P ＜ 0.05). Compared with the control group, the PICC retention time in the observation group was longer, the average daily cost was less, and the nursing satisfaction was higher (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The application of calcium alginate wound dressing after PICC catheterization can significantly reduce the incidence of early and late complications at the puncture site of lung cancer patients, while prolong the duration of PICC indwoundage, and improve postoperative recovery, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
