| Clinical effect of Guxi needle-knife therapy combined with cupping in the treatment of waist and back muscle fasciitis |

Abstract Objective To observe the clinical effect of Guxi needle-knife combined with cupping in the treatment of waist and back muscle fasciitis. Methods Eighty-two patients with waist and back muscle fasciitis admitted to Department of Spine, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from October 2013 to March 2014 were divided into the treatment group (41 cases) and the control group [39 cases (fall off in 2 cases)] by random number table method. The treatment group was treated with Guxi needle-knife therapy combined with cupping. The control group was treated with local blockade injection and small needle-knife therapy. The average number of treatment and clinical effect between the two groups were compared, and visual analogue scale (VAS) score and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were recorded before and one month after treatment. Results The average number of treatment in the treatment group was less than that in the control group (P ＜ 0.05); VAS score and ODI in the two groups had no statistically significant differences before treatment (P ＞ 0.05), and VAS score and ODI in the two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment (P ＜ 0.05), but VAS score and ODI in the two groups after treatment had no statistically significant differences (P ＞ 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Both therapies can alleviate the pain and dysfunction of patients with waist and back muscle fasciitis, but compared with local blockade injection and small needle-knife therapy, Guxi needle-knife therapy combined with cupping can improve the symptoms of patients in fewer times of treatment, and achieve a good clinical effect.
