| Application effect of failure mode and effect analysis in transfusion safety management in ICU |

Abstract Objective To explore the application effect of failure mode and effect analysis in transfusion safety management of critical care medicine. Methods A total of 662 patients admitted to the Department of Intensive Care Unit, Taihe Hospital of Shiyan City from August 2017 to July 2018 and requiring blood transfusion were selected as research objects. Among them, 342 patients from August 2017 to January 2018 served as the control group, 320 patients from February to July 2018 were included in the observation group. The observation group performed blood transfusion according to the traditional nursing routine, while the control group used failure mode and effect analysis to analyze and improve the previous blood transfusion process. The risk coefficients and blood transfusion safety management scores of 7 sub-procedures were compared between the two groups. Results The risk coefficients of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P ＜ 0.01). The blood transfusion safety management score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The transfusion safety management based on the failure mode and effect analysis can effectively reduce the risk in the transfusion process of patients and significantly improve the quality of transfusion safety management, which is worthy of clinical application.
