Changes and correlation of PTEN and p-AKT protein expression in breast cancer patients |

Abstract Objective To investigate the expression and significance of protein tyrosinase gene (PTEN) and phosphorylated protein kinase (p-AKT) in patients with breast cancer. Methods 91 cases of breast cancer tissues in West China Hospital from February 2014 to July 2016 were selected, and normal breast tissues from the edge of tumor tissues 1 cm were selected as control group, immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of PTEN and p-AKT protein. Results The positive rate of PTEN expression in breast cancer tissues was significantly lower than that in adjacent tissues (P < 0.05), but the p-AKT protein expression was higher than the adjacent tissue (P < 0.05). The PTEN positive expression rate in patients with axillary lymph node metastasis was significantly lower than that in patients without axillary lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05), while the positive expression of p-AKT protein was significantly higher than that without axillary lymph node metastases (P < 0.05). The expression of PTEN protein and p-AKT protein was related to the histological grade (P < 0.05), the expression of p-AKT protein was related to TNM stage (P < 0.05), the expression of PTEN protein and p-AKT protein were not correlated with age, menopausal status, tumor size, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor in patients with breast cancer (P > 0.05). There was a negative correlation between the expression of PTEN protein and p-AKT protein in breast cancer (r=-0.337, P < 0.05). Conclusion The expression of PTEN protein is decreased in breast cancer, the expression of p-AKT protein is increased, and the expression of PTEN protein and p-AKT protein are negatively correlated, which may play an important role in the development of breast cancer.
