Abstract The etiology of hypokalaemia is a common clinical electrolyte disorder, which is complex and the clinical manifestations are diverse. The complication of rhabdomyolysis is prone to delayed diagnosis or missed diagnosis, thus affecting the prognosis. This paper reported a case of severe hypokalemia combined with rhabdomyolysis caused by chronic diarrhea in an elderly patient in Wuxi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, whose minimum potassium at 1.45 mmol/L, and rised levels of serum creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase MB (CK-MB). After complementing potassium, hydration, diuresis, antioxidation and stabilizing cell membrane, a total of 72 g potassium chloride was supplied, then potassium returned to normal, and levels of CK, CK-MB gradually returned to stable. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the experiences of this kind of disease and give a guidance for diagnose and treatment in hypokalemia combined with rhabdomyolysis.
