Data analysis of clinical transfusion in obstetrics |

Abstract Objective To provide evidence-based medical basis to improve the blood supply ability and safety stock level of blood transfusion in Department of Obstetrics, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University ("our hospital" for short) by analyzing clinical blood use and other data of blood transfusion for nearly 6 years. Methods Retrospective study was conducted by our hospital to analyze the data about clinical blood use of 15 498 obstetrical patients from January 2011 to December 2016, including component blood transfusion quantity, blood transfusion rate, massive blood transfusion rate, supreme value of massive blood transfusion and clinical information of massive blood transfusion patients. Results 229 of 15 498 patients had received blood transfusion, with the rate of 1.48%. Transfusion quantity, blood transfusion rate and massive blood transfusion annually decreased from 2011 to 2014, fell to 177 U, 0.70% and 0.03% in 2014. Since 2015, the index started to rise and reached 501 U, 2.28% and 0.40% by 2016. 29 patients had received red blood cell infusion more than 10 U. The supreme value of red blood cell infusion was 42 U in 2012, 24 U in 2015 and 20 U in 2016 respectively. Conclusion The transfusion quantity, blood transfusion rate and massive blood transfusion of blood transfusion department annually decreased from 2011 to 2014. An increase followed in 2015 and 2016. It Indicated an increase risk of clinic blood use and a decrease in supreme value of massive blood transfusion. The blood transfusion department should perform preoperative blood preparation in cooperation with the obstetrics to ensure the obstetrical medical safety.
