Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between physical exercise and mental health of medical staff. Methods From June to December 2018, multicenter methods and questionnaire were used for the investigating of the physical and exercise situation of 150 medical workers in Putuo District People′s Hospital (50 cases), Tongji Ten Hospitals Group (50 cases) and the Community Health Service Center (50 cases), the medical staff mental health and physical exercise were analyzed. Results A total of 150 questionnaires were distributed and 146 effective questionnaires were recovered, the effective recovery rate was 97.33%. Among them, 20 medical workers were functional section members, 15 medical workers of deputy section grade, and 15 medical workers of department grade; 18 clinical physicians, 15 attending physicians and 15 chief physicians; 24 nursing teachers and 24 nurses. From section member, deputy section level to regular section level, the higher the position of medical staff in functional section was, the lower the number of people who participate in exercise and had the intention to exercise, and the higher the number of people who feel pressure (P < 0.05). Among the clinicians, the higher the professional title was, the more they participated in and had the intention to exercise, while the less they had the feeling of pressure (P < 0.05). Among clinical nurses, nurses and senior nurses were under great pressure, while the numbers of exercise participants and those with exercise intention were poor, with no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Correlation analysis showed that the sense of pressure of medical staff were negatively correlated with their willingness to exercise and their participation in exercise (r = -0.535, P < 0.01; r = -0.852, P < 0.01). Conclusion The mental health status of medical staff is closely related to their participation in physical exercise, and the mental health status of medical staff who actively participate in physical exercise is obviously better than that of medical staff who do not participate in physical exercise and occasionally participate in physical exercise.
