Correlation between the ratio of mean platelet volume to platelet count and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension |

Abstract Objective To investigate the correlation between mean platelet volume (MPV)/platelet count (PLT) and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension. Methods A total of 109 patients with essential hypertension admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University from March 2016 to March 2018 were selected as subjects. All patients were examined by echocardiography and were divided into the left ventricular hypertrophy group (51 cases) and the non-left ventricular hypertrophy group (58 cases) according to the level of left ventricular myocardial mass index. The clinical data of gender, age, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were compared between the two groups. The levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), hemoglobin (HGB), red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and MPV/PLT were compared. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between the above indexes and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension. Results Systolic blood pressure in left ventricular hypertrophy group was higher than that in non-left ventricular hypertrophy group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). RDW in left ventricular hypertrophy group was higher than that in non-left ventricular hypertrophy group, while MPV/PLT in left ventricular hypertrophy group was lower than that in non-left ventricular hypertrophy group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that systolic blood pressure and RDW were independent risk factor for left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension, while MPV/PLT was protective factor (P < 0.05). Conclusion MPV/PLT is closely related to left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with essential hypertension. Detection of MPV/PLT in clinical work can help prevent target organ damage.
