Abstract Objective To analyze the pathogenic correlation between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and dry eye syndrome (DES). Methods 1738 adults age 40 or older from Huichengmen Community of Haidian District, Beijing were involved to complete DES questionnaires combined with laboratory tests, anthropometric measures and slit-lamp examinations. Results Morbidities of MetS and DES was 32% and 24.7% respectively. The incidences in female patients were significantly higher than those in male (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis indicated that hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia were independent risk factors for MetS after correcting ages, smoking, drinking and education level. Conclusion Positive correlation was observed between MetS and DES. Hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia were the independent risk factors for MetS.
