The advance of the use of Pre-S1 antigen in the diagnosis and therapy of hepatitis B virus infection |

Abstract Pre-S1 antigen is a membrane protein which is located at the surface of hepatitis B virus (HBV) particle. Recently,a lot of studies suggested Pre-S1 antigen could be detected in blood and used as a marker of the early infection of HBV. The detection of Pre-S1 antigen is highly consistent with the detection of HBV-DNA and HBeAg to be the supplement and reference. The clearance time and continuing positive of Pre-S1 antigen could respectively indicate the prognosis of the infection of HBV. Therefore, Pre-S1 antigen could be used as an important tool for the diagnosis and therapy of hepatitis B virus infection. In this study, we will summarize the structure and function of Pre-S1 antigen and it clinical use in liver diseases associated with hepatitis B virus infection.
