Curative effect of Duhuo Granules combined with Celecoxib on knee osteoarthritis and its influence on related cytokines |

Abstract Objective To investigate the curative effect of Duhuo Granules combined with Celecoxib on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and its effect on related cytokines. Methods A total of 101 patients with KOA admitted to Shuyang Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2016 to August 2017 were selected, the patients were divided into control group (n = 50, Celecoxib) and study group (n = 51, Celecoxib combined with Duhuo Granules) according to random digital table method. The clinical efficacy, hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), clinical symptom score, visual analogue score (VAS), knee joint function (HSS score) and adverse reactions were compared between two groups. Results After 30 d of treatment, the total effective rate of study group was significantly higher than that of control group (P < 0.05). After 30 d of treatment, the levels of hs-CRP, IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α in two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the levels in study group were lower than those in control group (P < 0.05). After 30 d of treatment, the level of TGF-β in study group was higher than that before treatment, and the level of TGF-β in study group was higher than that in control group (P < 0.05). After 30 d of treatment, the scores of clinical symptoms and VAS in two groups were lower than those before treatment, and those in study group were lower than those in control group (P < 0.05). After 30 d of treatment, HSS score of two groups was higher than before treatment, and that of study group was higher than that of control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Duhuo Granules combined with Celecoxib in the treatment of KOA has definite curative effect. It can effectively improve the level of related cytokines, improve the clinical symptoms of patients without increasing the incidence of adverse reactions.
